Even the template is 'Wasteland'. This is my world - where Bingo, Apathy and Decay are the Holy Trinity, and a singer is an annoying interruption to/distraction from, the ritual supplication. It's a place where dressing rooms are full of broken furniture and have no mirrors, and audiences have long forgotten how to listen and show appreciation - unless their pal/daughter/husband is on the karaoke. To imbue Buddy from The Incredibles with the ethos of Simon Cowell: 'I'll make everyone a singer, and then when everyone's a singer, nobody will be'. Is this the future? No. This venue and thousands like it have no future. But a virtual Social Club, with a few tweaks and with your support, just might have what it takes to survive.

'Bingo tickets on sale at the front, while the artist is onstage...'
Faintly, over the ribald exchanges, the click of snooker balls, and the cascading coins of the bandits, can be heard the strains of the aspiring artist; oft neglected and ignored amid the smoky haze, vainly trying to inspire and move the uninspirable and immovable. If one person would but listen, just one person would smile in acknowledgement. Bulldozers, engines running, are in the car park, waiting for the last echoes to die away...

Perfect boy
A hunched, defeated, skinny bloke in jeans leans on the bar, head in hands, tears dripping into his already watered-down ale, mumbling incoherently, though the odd word is comprehensible - 'perfect', 'blew it', 'over', 'now', 'what?' 'gerroff'. added to station 6/22/2006 11:11:11 PM
