It’s Almost A Decade…
I want to share my journey as an independent artist. I’ve had my highs and my lows, and through it all, I’ve come back stronger. It all began on October 6th, 2016, just before the election when I was 29 years old. The first song I crafted was “Dear Father God,” and that track set me on the path to discovering my voice in blues music. I wanted to create something unique: my own melody, my own expression. In 2018, I hit a milestone with “Motor City Woman,” and that led to my first two nominations for the Josie Music Awards. I’ll never forget the shock of being at the awards in Pigeon Forge, where I not only received recognition but also had the chance to give advice to fellow artists. That was my moment to share my passion.
In 2020, before the pandemic turned everything upside down, I faced a period of deep hurt and shame. I wrote seven songs during that time, and despite the struggles, recognition started pouring in along with chart entries. I remember the painful moment in August when someone hurled a racial slur at me. It left me frustrated and ashamed, but through meditation, I found clarity and reconnected with my faith.
In 2021, the music world experienced a loss. Carlos Capote, the bandleader of Atlanta's top blues band, The Breeze Kings, passed away, alongside Tom Gray from Delta Moon. In their honor, I wrote a tribute song, “Delta Breeze (A Tribute to Carlos Capote and Tom Gray),” marking five years since their impact on the local blues community. I’m still forging ahead, one note at a time.
By 2023, I celebrated the success of “Suga Mama,” which quickly became a fan favorite. The pinnacle of that year was my stage debut at Northside Tavern for BreezeFest 2023, where I met incredible artists like Angel Ocasio Jr. and Sandra Senn. I poured my heart into that performance, and it became a moment I would cherish forever.
Now it’s 2026. I’m still relentless in my pursuit, still believing in myself, and I proudly carry the title of The Southern Sire of the Blues. With ten awards and nearly 70 nominations, I’ve had extensive radio play and growing support on my social media platforms. I’ve come a long way since 2016, and I’m just getting started!
As I wrap up, I want to express my gratitude to God for the countless blessings in my life. To my family for their unwavering support and sacrifice; to my musical peers who have stood by me; and to my loyal fans around the world—your encouragement means everything to me. This is more than a timeline; it’s my story! As for what the next decade holds, only time will tell. Thank you for being with me on this journey. Much love, and may God be with you!
