Verse 1: The Boatsman, he’s under the deck, a man of
courage bold, Shantyman
Chorus: “To th’top, to th’top, my lively lads, Hold
fast, my hearts of gold!” HEAVE HO!
Verse 2: When the raging seas do foam, and the lofty
winds do blow, Shantyman
Chorus: The Sailors, they go to the top, When
Land-men stay below! HEAVE HO!
Verse 3: It is a testimonial good; we are not far from
land, Shantyman
Chorus: There sits a Mermaid on the Rock, with
Comb and Glass in hand! HARK YE!
Verse 4: Our Captain, he is on the deck, a man of might
and power, Shantyman
Chorus: And look when raging Seas do gape
our bodies to devour! LADS, PULL!
Verse 5: Our royal Ship is run to rack, That was so
stout and trim, Shantyman
Chorus: And some are put unto their shifts, Either to sink or swim! A frantic, AYE, TO SWIM!
Verse 6: And many dangers likewise they Do many times
endure, Shantyman
Chorus: When as they meet their enemies, That
comes with might and power!
