This folky ballad was written while busking one day in my home town of Guildford. I was taking a lunch-break in the grounds of Guildford Castle, reminiscing about all the days I spent hanging out there during my mispent teenage years, and suddenly felt inspiration to write this song. This version is an unfinished recording for my debut album, recorded at Pond Life Studios in Glastonbury (http://www.pondlifestudios.com/recording_studios/)

Lyrics and music by Anthea Neads
All vocals and instruments performed by Anthea Neads
Engineered by Matt Tweed at Pond Life Studios, Glastonbury (http://www.pondlifestudios.com/recording_studios/)

The song is about the range of conflicting emotions you get when you re-visit the place you grew up, the place where you spent so many of your formative years and went through many rites of passage. It's all about going back there 10 years later, reflecting on how you've changed since then and whether, 10 years before, you'd ever think that you'd have become the person you are now...
Making peace with this castle town
Forgive all the past hurt and pain
The memories aren't all that bad
My heart may still dwell in this place

Ghosts are here
Memories
Of formative years
In this place
Perhaps I'll find
The key that I seek

Making peace with this castle town
The birds, they're all singing around
As if they know today is the day
My heart's coming back here to stay

Ghosts are here
Memories
Of formative years
In this place
Perhaps I'll find
The key that I seek

Shape me
My castle town
Like you once did
Help me find
The person that
You started making me

Forgive me, my castle town
I went so far, far away
From the child you taught me to be
You wouldn't like the adult I became

I never grasped
My castle town
What you tried to show
You tried to humble me
To make me see
Who I should become

Shape me
My castle town
Like you once did
Help me find
The person that
You started making me x

The Good Stuff, Too!!!
Lovely. Wonderful vocal arrangement and beautiful harmonies. Like a more-spiritual version of The Roches.
