Geronimo’s Ghost
by: Terry Burdette © 2002

verse 1: There’s a tombstone way out west in Oklahoma
Marks the sacred ground where Geronimo lay
Just some dirt and weeds the grass won’t even grow there
A grain of sand for every sorrow that Geronimo faced

rise: If he could rise again today with just one warning
To try and save us from the heartaches that he faced
He’d say you better count the cost when lives hang in the balance
Cause the bitter cries of their suffering will haunt you in your grave

Chorus: Geronimo’s ghost still rides out in the desert
down to Mexico ...down where the blood once flowed like a river
he prays that men learn to live together
Geronimo’s ghost rides from Wounded Knee to Vicksburg
through the smoke on the Arabian desert
If you believe that a good day to die is never...then ride with Geronimo’s ghost

Verse 2: They cut em down to 35 against five thousand
but it took white lies and whiskey to bring his defeat
fate had placed the call to run or fight upon his shoulders
but either way that old Apache warrior would never rest in peace

Chorus:

Bridge: He was as tough as leather and he moved like the wind
but in the valley of decision he was just another man
So if your down by the river where the red sun sets
say a prayer this angry world will finally listen
then Geronimo ...can finally rest

Chorus:
