Inspired by my time living in Texas. Thank God it was Austin. But I visited Houston a number of times and the size, sprawl, concrete, highways, heat, humidity, endless retail and commercial real estate was mind-numbing. I imagined people trapped in this concrete wasteland, no way out. Brought there with a promise of a better tomorrow, brighter future, blah, blah. The same old story.

Verse 1: Houston, You never held my heart; I'd leave you if I could,
but I don't know where to start.
Forever . . . your face goes on forever. I know your lines so well.
But they only lead me nowhere.
You're drowning my dreams, and burning my bridges, and strangling my senses.
Don't cover me, over with concrete; don't cover me, I'm not your son.
Verse 2: Do you remember your promise? Of wide open spaces? A saving oasis?
Now buzzards are circling. Do you see me crawling? So tired of losin',
my beautiful Houston. Don't cover me over with concrete,
don't cover me over with concrete,
Don't cover me, don't cover me...
Houston, what were you thinking? I think you were sleeping,
on a hot afternoon, in the middle of winter.
My beautiful Houston, don't cover me, don't cover me, over with concrete.
Don't cover me, over with concrete,
don't cover me, I'm not the one.
Houston, Houston... x
