Poppy, upbeat;
boppy, bittersweet!
Abby London's influences are Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, and other slightly quirky singers! Some might hear a little Cyndi Lauper and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," or Katrina and the Waves, "Walkin' on Sunshine," when they listen. Or not. Someone said sounded like Disney radio from the 90's and early 2000's. We'll take it. We dare you not to tap at least one toe. Special props to the other singer on this pop tart, Kylie Nelson. And also to our maestro, engineer extraordinaire and co-producer, Jakael Tristram.

I wrote this song from the perspective of a friend talking to me about losing the love of my life and that no matter what I felt, said, did, or didn't do, she wasn't coming back. EVER. But that while losing her was forever, the pain and mourning didn't have to be forever. There was hope, and it was all there inside of me. Or, in the context of this song, the sad lover being comforted. There's also an ironic backstory to the idea of listening to one's heart. We're often told, in song, movie, book, etc., to "listen to our hearts," or, "trust your gut." All well and good; but what if your heart is full of fear, anger, hurt, judging, blame, guilt, doubt, and more? What kind of "good counsel" is a heart like that going to provide? Kind of like "Garbage in, garbage out." This was absolutely the case with my lover, who's heart told her to leave me because her heart was full of fear, anger, and insecurity, which she projected onto me. She also, as the song says, "hardened her heart" toward me, as she did to her previous lover (her ex-husband). What they don't teach us in school is that when you love yourself and love others, you never, never, EVER harden your heart against anyone. There is no need. We only harden our hearts when we're scared, insecure, angry, defensive, ashamed, and so on. We are protecting. And only wounded people have to protect.

Listen To Your Heart
© 2016 by David Nyro

Chorus: Listen to your heart, it’s the bow and the arrow,
Listen to your heart, it’s the bone and marrow
Listen to your heart, it’s the words and the melody
Verse 1:
I see your heart; it’s full of pain; You never thought you’d love again
You’re on a path, not always plain(to see)
You seek the healing, the healing flame
Chorus: Listen to your heart, it’s the bow and the arrow,
Listen to your heart, it’s the bone and marrow
Listen to your heart, it’s the words and the melody
Listen to your heart, it’s the rain and the thunder,
Listen to your heart, it’s the dawn and the wonder
Listen to your heart, it’s the sky and the deep blue sea.
Verse 2:
I know it’s hard to keep on going,
She was the best love you ever knew
But there’s a lighthouse somewhere, glowing.
It’s always been there, inside of you
Bridge:
Cry - She’s gone.
Nothing’s going to bring her back
Closed off her heart to you, forever.
Forever and forever, 'til you reunite, in love,
out in the field beyond the never,
where our pain does not exist.
Listen to your heart, it’s the bow and the arrow,
Listen to your heart, it’s the bone and marrow
Listen to your heart, it’s the words and the melody
Listen to your heart, it’s the rain and the thunder,
Listen to your heart, it’s the dawn and the wonder
Listen to your heart, it’s the sky and the deep blue sea.
Listen to your heart
Listen to your heart
Listen to your heart

Ambitious production and catchy tune that has has some nice changes. Piano and drums are recorded extremely well which I know is hard to do!! Refreshing and youthful sound all around and good vibes abound. Kudos to all involved in the writing, performance and production.
