I once wrote a story that wasn’t about me
But a boy whose values were reflective of the things that I fear and the futures I see
The walls without doors and the ideas without keys
The powers he challenged and the father he lost
all seemed worthy prices whatever the cost
He collected all gold. He collected all tears.
He ran through the cold and his breath that appeared
Looked forward to days that seem not like years.
The pain was all earned or passive or yearned
All love, he kept waiting and seldom returned
And the cliff he looked over to foresee The end ,
was not deep with reason to try life again.
And he wrote one last story about ideas and keys—
That boy in the story wrote one about me.
