Biography
K.A.L.I. is not just an identifiable name for Ryan Akers a.k.a. K.A.L.I., but a journey of the life that exemplifies the depth of his lyrics and the essence of his name - Knowledge Always Lives Inside. He is the face and the sound of the new Hip Hop generation, threading together the influences of the past with the nuances of today and creating a sound that is innovative and relevant. Growing up in an era when Hip Hop was at its peak, he, at the tender age of eleven, felt compelled to try his hand at rapping, making it more than just rhythmic artistic poems, but becoming Hip Hop. Performing in several talent shows and other events he quickly made a name for himself. By the time he was seventeen this California native became a background dancer for Grammy Award winner and Gospel pioneer Kirk Franklin and landed a 65 city tour sharing the stage with the likes of Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, CeCe Winans, Tonex; and several other A-list Gospel Artists in the Industry. The exposure alone landed him an appearance with Stevie Wonder for The Special Olympics, where he performed on stage to the number of over fifty thousand people from all over the world; and made television appearances on The Grammy's, The Soul Train Music Awards, The Image Awards, The Stellar Awards, and other network television shows.
K.A.L.I. launched his music career just after moving from San Diego, California to Houston, Texas. Since relocating, the 26 year old K.A.L.I.’s outstanding performances have not only attracted the attention of several established artists in the Hip Hop industry, with whom he had the honor of working with, but have allowed him to build an enormous fan base gaining him noted recognition as being one of Houston’s hardest working artists. K.A.L.I.’s ‘no-nonsense’ style has captured audiences throughout the United States and has taken the ‘Dirty South’ by storm.
K.A.L.I.’s ability to take command of his audiences have paved the way to other on-stage performances. In 2008, he will co-star in the Gospel musical stage play, “Love Don’t Cost A Thing….Or Does It?”
K.A.L.I.’s desire to empower Houston’s Inner City Youth, led him to establish The Sky's The Limit, Inc., a non-profit organization and inner city after-school reading enrichment and learning center for children ages 6-18. It isn’t hard to tell that K.A.L.I is not only a mover and shaker in his community but an artist with the desire, dedication and determination to be all that he can be and then some. This definitely makes him a superstar in the eyes of all who encounter him.
