Dr. Joyner is a guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, playing primarily electric guitar, as well as acoustic guitar, bass guitar and synthesizer. Dr. Joyner was born in Ohio in 1983. At the age of 13, Dr. Joyner picked up the guitar and within a few years was playing classic songs by The Ventures, BB King, SRV, Pink Floyd, and Jimi Hendrix. In junior high and high school Dr. Joyner was playing the blues illegally at local blues jams in 21 and up bars in downtown Dayton, Ohio, with his father as a chaperone. In these early years, Dr. Joyner developed a soulful bluesy style and began to expanded his musical interests, soon jumping into genres like progressive rock, psychedelic, funk, jazz, reggae, electronic, and classical.

While attending university at OSU, Dr. Joyner played as frontman for the Reggae Boyz and hosted open jams every weekend for several years at the late Barrister Hall (a famous jazz bar in downtown Columbus OH). Dr. Joyner spent 11 years between university and obtaining a PhD in Biochemistry in 2012, after which he picked music up in full force. A scientist at heart, Dr. Joyner delved into the music theory and the scientific aspects of sound, exploring curious new directions, electronically modifying his guitar (Fender Stratocaster) to endow it with unusual tonal quality, and making curious external electronic sound devices. By 2013, Dr. Joyner was whole-heartedly back into composing music.

From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Joyner released 3 studio albums (progressive rock) and also released 7 live albums with the duo Casebere & Joyner (experimental). In 2014, Dr. Joyner moved to Europe, with a new home in the exploding music scene in Budapest, Hungary. There, Dr. Joyner specializes in playing live gigs and festivals with several bands including The 45 Guns, Mookie Brando and the Second Cousins, and I’m with the Monkey. Dr. Joyner also became the owner/host of a popular biweekly public jam session in downtown Budapest called Open Jam – Funk/Blues Night. These jams have become famous for turning into epic parties, typically with 50 or more guests. These jams start off with blues/funk, but usually venture into unknown territory after midnight, sometimes creating entirely new genres. Dr. Joyner is currently working on future albums, playing with several bands, and hosting the live funk/blues jams.
