Combining elements of Funk, Hip Hop, Pop, and Soul, the First Street Heat creates a sound that captures the emotion, energy, and relevance of modern pop music while remaining true to the elements of the funk pioneers of the 1960's and 70's. Dynamic, soaring lead vocals, a three-piece horn section, and a six-person rhythm section combine to create a catchy juxtaposition of past and current music that you can't quite find anywhere else.

It all happened in the Fall of 2008 at Ohio University, when Ben (Vox), Jack (Sax), and Eric (Guitar, Vox) joined forces to hang out on a bench and serenade people on East Green. Soon rough concepts of a funk band were tossed around and more people were added to the band. In fact, way too many people were added to the band. Now solidified at a modest 10-12 people, The First Street Heat can pack small bars without having an audience.

With multiple singers, a 3-piece horn section, and some tight rhythm, The First Street Heat has a sound that is hard to find this side of P-Funk. The groovy bass lines and dynamic horn section keep it funky, but Ben Kain channels some good old pop music with his sweet pipes. Eden Lee completes the sound with a large helping of sexy and soul and Eric Turner breaks it down like Chali 2na with his bass vocals. Just when your brain can't handle the massive amounts of sweet funk, Zach Pontzer heats it up with a wicked guitar solo, making sure you will go home with a melted face.
