The Boy From Space landed in a pub in Salisbury in June 1999. Brothers Marshall Ward and Dr Boox realised no one was going to record the music they wanted to hear (although The Pizzicato Five came close). So, armed with the winnings from a local pop quiz they set out to the record the kind of music which seemed only to be found floating around in their heads; developing a sound which seemed worlds apart from the usual MTV focus group and boardroom inspired bands.

Having received great reviews in the local press and a ‘Band of the Week’ slot on the Reelscreen.com web site, they realised they weren’t the only ones who felt anthemic guitar rock had had it’s day and promptly signed to Native records (see press cutting!).

Frustrated by the slow pace, and paranoid that someone would ‘get there first’, after two years they decided to go-it-alone, and set up their own record company Interstella Sounds in June 2003. Since then their debut live performance got them in the top 10 of a national competition organised by the London Institute of Contemporary Music; they have played the Dublin Castle and The Pleasure Unit amongst other gigs and have just released two singles: If I was Crap Like You and Don’t Call Me Sir, available now from www.Interstella.co.uk. They have now finished their debut album – ‘London Paris Tokyo Space’ with legendary English producer Fran Ashcroft (Damon Albarn, Dandy Warhols).

Their most recent adventure was to contribute two tracks to a Sell Out EP released on Bracken Records – one of the tracks ‘Wouldn’t You Rather Be A Winner’ got played a number of times on Radio 1’s Huw Stevens show -

“A track we should listen to before every show on Radio 1…Brilliant” Huw Stevens

Fuelled by the incompatibility of Marshall Ward’s obsession with Japanese pop music, Dr Boox’s love of classical music and dead end office jobs. The Boy From Space have developed a unique sound and equally bizarre outlook on life.

“Insanely great or greatly insane? It’s weird, unorthodox, a little crazy and well weird all over again – a sort of dance pop concoction mixed with utter insanity.” Cobi Murphy, The Salisbury Journal.

“this is the music that everybody needs to have pumped into their brains so they can at least say they listened to something different once in their dull grey lives." Aled Jones - Glasswerk
