Brad has been a musician nearly his entire life. He has played multiple instruments in his home school’s bands, orchestras, and choirs. Performing has always been a passion for him. He primarily played trumpet and had aspirations of attending the Baldwin-Wallace conservatory to study it. His attention was torn away from it when he began playing the guitar at age 17. By 18 he had become quite proficient on it and was writing his own songs. But it would still be a couple of years before his dream of forming a band would be realized.
In 2005 he formed a band called Dub-Town which gained much notoriety in the Cleveland/Akron area. It was clear from the get-go that Brad was the natural leader of the group. He dove head first into the roles of front-man, songwriter, rhythm/lead guitar, and played his own booking agent. Brad helped them to land gigs with such nationally known acts as Afro-Man and Slightly Stoopid, as well as regionally well-known reggae artist Carlos Jones. He networked with many Cleveland artists and became well known on the scene. The band snow-balled and was eventually playing out 2-3 times a month sometimes even 4. Unfortunately Brad’s intensity was unmatched by his fellow band mates, and the band dissolved in mid 2007.
The break-up was not enough to discourage Brad. Music is his passion and he is not willing to give up easily. He continued to writing songs that became more positive and introspective. He was greatly inspired by an artist that he never before took seriously, John Mayer. His earlier influences had included the likes of Sublime, and other reggae-rock groups, but his influences had shifted even before his first band to artists like Eric Clapton, Eisley, and Simon and Garfunkel. However this style of writing didn’t fit what his former band had become known for.
Having trouble finding a new band to back him up, he took to the studio with three of his new songs to cut a solo demo. He recorded all of the instruments and vocals himself with the exception of the drums. It was a tedious process, and it took a lot of time, but the end results were well worth it. The engineer/owner of the studio, Jay Kelker, ended up filling the role of co-producer. This was a blessing, because the studio felt so empty without a band to create with. Jay’s experience and expertise helped create a product far superior to any recording Brad had done before.
Now that he has more experience, and a new knowledge of the music industry, Brad is determined to become a recording and performing singer/songwriter. His drive is rare, and his passion is deep. He is consumed by a desire to make his music heard, and has a firm belief in it that he has never felt before. Armed with his music and limitless aspirations, Brad is ready to face the industry without trepidation, and leave it all on the field.
