A Preview of the CD Glittering Cities by Susan Raven

SUSAN RAVEN
"I write all my songs on a vintage Martin 12-string guitar. It is an entire band in one instrument, the harmonics and drones that spin out from the strumming suggest many of the overdubs that follow. I take a song and hone it until the base-metal turns to gold. I write lyrics to trigger emotions, memories and inspiration in people and as my craft has matured, so a strong individual sound has emerged. My music has been variously described as Cosmic World Fusion, Space Rock and Ethno-Pop."

Behind Your eyes (Excerpt)
The opening song of urban angst versus angelic guidance sweeps in on a tide of layered 12 string guitars. The voice leads you through emotions and imagery that tug at far memories in the sub-conscious leading you sonically and phonetically into a soul mood of optimism. added to station 12/4/2007 8:28:31 PM

Here To Be (Excerpt)
Enhanced by the gorgeous west African bassline of Hilaire Penda (Salif Keita Band), this song calls on us to revere our planet and acknowledge her consciousness. Swinging over 12 string guitars and quirky keyboards is a tale of how we 'zip' ourselves into different coloured skins each time we incarnate to take on the task at hand. added to station 12/4/2007 8:29:10 PM

Saturn (Excerpt)
A haunting, turbulent piece that starts with a chant calling the names of seven planets described in Rudolf Steiner's Occult Science as the seven incarnations of the being known as Earth. Written in a minor key the glissando guitar sends you out into far space and Hilaire Penda's West African bass line drives the spacecraft on a gorgeous groove. added to station 12/4/2007 8:31:48 PM

I Think of You (Excerpt)
