Songs about youth and beauty and living and loving forever
become boring, do they not? ;)
I knew the lady in question, and wanted to honour her.

Music/instruments/vocals: Robyn MacKenzie

The Final Note Sounds

(v1)
A woman lived near me
Whose age I never knew
But her eyes were still bright
And deep sapphire blue
Her fine silver hair
Shimmered down to her waist
And she dressed it with daisies
And bright marigolds
People said she was crazy
But what did they know

Chorus
On a taut gleaming tightrope
I'm dancing, she said,
And it's strung like a dream
Between menopause and death
It's a grand waltz of years
And my music's winding down
But I'll dance up until
The final note sounds

(v2 )
We would sit on her porch
And drink chamomile tea
When I asked about men
She just winked at me
Oh I know what I know
And I've seen what I've seen
Yet my touch even now
Can bring a man sweet relief
For I still have the passion
But none of the grief

Chorus
On a taut gleaming tightrope
I'm dancing, she said,
And it's strung like a dream
Between menopause and death
It's a grand waltz of years
And my music's winding down
But I'll dance up until
The final note sounds

Lift
I asked how she felt as she watched her youth fade
And did she regret any choices she'd made
Oh many, she smiled, but they formed who I am
And there isn't a one whose lessons I'd trade

Bridge
And death's a mysterious lover
Who waits in his cloak near the gate
He'll step up to enfold me gently
When I dance from the mortal state

Chorus
On a taut gleaming tightrope
I'm dancing, she said,
And it's strung like a dream
Between menopause and death
It's a grand waltz of years
And the music's winding down
But I'll dance up until
The final note sounds

Outro
I still hear her laughing
Though I know she's long gone
With her dark lover Death
And they're singing his song

Over The Moon Two
Wonderful folky song about an unusual topic - an older woman (like me ha ha) - anyone who can bring the word menopause into a song deserves being added to a station! Great song.
