Thoughtful ballad with a rock edge

Music/Lyrics/Singing'Playing/Props/Arranging/Recording: Tom O'Brien

Inspired by the optimistic saying by Lao Tse: My barn having burned, I can now see the moon. Brought to mind by someone on the Pipeline who talked of a woman's house burning down and saying, "At least no one was hurt."
Once I thought my head was on fire
So many things had failed to transpire
Making me the talk of the town
"There's that guy whose head's burning down"
It might be dangerous to give me some rope
There's stranger things than giving up hope
Just let me tie a knot and hang on
Till all the fire engines are gone

The lesson learned
Could not come to soon:
My barn having burned
I can now see the moon

My life was a tragedy then
My actions I in no way defend
Juliet was such a good friend
But she and Romeo were dead in the end
Just give me some butter for my bread
Warm blankets for my big, empty bed
The sun, that I'm assured also rises
And a life that's always full of surprises

(Chorus)

Once I built a house with my hands
Thinking that it always would stand

(Chorus) x
