Near Pittsburgh Landing, Tennessee in April of 1862 the bloodiest battle of the war up to that point. Shiloh was a nearby church. Although both sides suffered heavy casualties the Union claimed victory, understanding, in the process, that the war would not be over in as short a period as they had once expected.

grays tried to push us toward Owl's Creek

Pittsburg Landing would be the test
the south had stung us like a Hornet's nest
backed up and waitin' for the battle cry
calling my boys but none replied
no one could figure who'd lost or won
both North & South had damage done
