Demo -

It was our 2nd time playing with bass player Dan Eubanks. We decided to record our practice to help him learn the songs. We sat in a circle in our very small living room, direct mic'd the steel and bass and threw a simple room mic up. The crickets outside were SO loud, we decided to open the windows and invite them in.... not flawless, but we feel it was very magical what happened in the living room that summer evening.

DON'T GIVE IN ©Auset, 2002

I know how far you've come now, I know that you've tried
I know that you have given your all, I know how you've cried

I've seen it a thousand times before, left out in the cold
Reading through letters of your past love, with no one to hold

Can you feel me with you?
Do you feel me here?
Don't give in

I can see that you're questioning all that you know, I've been there before
Sometimes we barely rise to our knees, before the next fall
Well pain comes to all who live in this world, it's nobody's plan
A childless mother, a union that ends - empty our hands

Can you feel me with you?
Do you feel me here?

Tell me how many times have you seen the ocean, or looked to the stars?
Has it been all that long since you've seen a sunrise, has it been all that long?
Well everyday brings endless beauty for the very first time.
Breathe once again, wipe your eyes... Don't give in.

POPS PICKS
I can't tell you how much I enjoy Auset.

Andys Wide Open Blues Jam
I was caught by the melancholy of this song, simply beautiful. The crickets in the background add a serendiptous atmosphere you could never have created "in the studio".

SuPeRhErO
A true Superhero song offering a sweet, gentle message... and a great example to us all.

LEGENDARY MUSIC II
For anyone and everyone who has walked through the Valley of Darkness and across the Plains of Loneliness of life, Auset's "Don't Give In" is the Holy Grail of song for pining hearts emptied by loves lost and spirits crushed and despaired by life's painful costs. Strains of aching pedal steel, melancholy dusty vocals and poignant lyrics send thoughts of deeply personal yesterdays swirling through my treasure chest of memories of special times and people that played a special part in my life in years gone by filling many of my days and nights with comfort and dreams. Tempered by shadows of grief and pain and the stains from tears dried long ago and that time is slowly fading away, the ethereal presence of an understanding hand of compassion combined with the miracle of hope flows beautifully through the lyrical and musical landscape of this bittersweet ballad painting a picture of the power of the promise of one more chance to embrace the beauty of a new sunrise appearing on the horizon. Auset's gifted songwriting talent and soulful vocals mixed with the passion and melodic pleading pouring out from the instruments of her compatriot musicians shines a light deep inside the darkest of corners, gently offering peace and comfort to weary and disquieted hearts and uplifting burdened spirits. "Don't Give In" is truly an inspirational and reflective ode on the mirror of life.

Transforming Minds
This is one of the loveliest songs I've had the delight to hear and you're right, that must have been a magical moment and you must have used magical mics because the magic is present in this wonderful capture of a moment in time when your hearts, hands, minds, mouths and souls were obviously united with that which unites us all.

Wreck On The Highway
In the wide open spaces of loss there is always a gap where we can sneak back in to the valley of life and struggle on. Where we go in our moments of grief is unclear but we do go somewhere, maybe down a crooked path of long shadows and chill winds that bleach us into acceptance. Our emotional ties can so easily sever, we lose people along the way like pieces of a puzzle that won't finish fair, but we carry our broken with us and trace the outline of who is missing on those quiet days. Auset sings so beautifully for these unfathomable fragile doubts. I wasn't bricked up ready for this song to happen upon me tonight! Though the only colour of blue is sad, here is a song that brings comfort down like a warm blanket, just to know we all feel sorrow in different ways and at different times shows music as tender as this is as comforting as comfort gets. A Mesmerising, haunting song for the soul.

Folk Miner .... the MotherLode
