An entirely fictional story woven around a very real, recent event. Another song, one that I've just remixed, written as I drove home from a gig and, if it's of no other value, it at least helped keep me awake. A brushed drum loop and double bass/acoustic guitar thing, with Fender Rhodes piano, percussion, between 4 and 12 backing vocals, 5 electric guitar tracks, with a sung/spoken, light-hearted lead vocal.

The bride cried as the groom replied: 'I do too!'
'OK so far' smiled the Registrar, 'But wait your turn love, will you?'
Two lilac bridesmaids fat and thin, one dark and one fair,
In the style of so-called Civil weddings everywhere.

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll

She looked up from her book and seemed to lip-read what I'd said,
Though how she could even see me through that cloud of red.
I dropped my eyes and they rolled to red shoes, one heel on the floor,
My senses woke to perfume, and the feeling that I'd been here before

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll

I stepped through the french windows for some space and fresh air,
Behind me the music played too loudly, no-one seemed to hear,
Into a courtyard of block black shadows where I hoped to find
That red-haired girl I'd sat behind

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll

Distracted by scrubbed, chasing children in squeaky stomping shoes,
And the video stroke photographer telling everyone what film he used,
Then glass in hand, tie undone and jacket on a chair
I looked back in through the window, and we saw each other standing there.

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll

She was leaning on the bar and as I walked into the room
Raised a glass, fixed my eyes, said a toast to me and you.
And with a gesture and a wink said: 'I'll see you in the video'
Like she'd been and seen the future, that I would get to know -
Now let it roll...

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll

It was almost perfect when I met you
At your sister's wedding in nineteen ninety three

La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
La la la, la la la, la la let it roll
