A new track from the International Ghostrider Collective, Scars, is a murder ballad based on a too very real story. It concerns the brutal murder of Peter Falconio and the ballsy escape from her captor by Joanne Lees. More than this the track touches on the appalling behaviour of the English & Australian tabloid press.
Essentially this song is a murder ballad that quickly deviates into a media regulation rant. It’s principle inspiration comes from the Victim of Crime impact statement read to the court by Joanne Lees in the trial that convicted the murderer of her partner, Peter Falconio. The song has gone through a few iterations before it arrived here as a new release for the International Ghostrider Collective.
Scars
(russelldowsett)

This is the life that I have to live
and the consequence is breathing.
Helpless, evil, close by you,
it’s the guilty seeds of grieving.
Take flight in the desert tonight,
Cos’ darkness is your friend.
This is real life, this is not a dream
But a night mare with out end.

Scars on the outside, it’s just like doing time
Am I a fool or what? This is; this is someone else’s crime.
Scars on the inside, they’re the ones you cannot see
All love endured for you alone
And it’s lonely being me.

A crowded bus and I can’t trust one person that I see
They hide behind your paper face all reading about me.
My privacy, it’s a luxury that I can’t afford to lose
Shout my secrets to the world and call it prime time news.

Shadows shatter a peace of mind like you would not believe,
I’ll be strong and wiser now, a little less naïve.
In the tabloid hell of kiss and tell, my story is not for sale
This is my fight, and I crossed the world to see justice prevail. x
