My personal tribute and appreciation to the great songwriters and artists of the legendary 1950's Country, Blues and Rockabilly era, and the dawning of Rock and Roll who were my inspiration and have been my greatest influence through the years and in the recording of my album, 'Those Were The Days'.

Written by Neil w Young

Lead vocals - Neil w Young
Lead guitar - Gary Borden
Acoustic & electric guitars - Ray Lyell
Bass guitar - Mike DeBenedictis
Piano - Ray Lyell, Gary Ashthorpe
Sax - David Rodenburg
Drums - Roger Banks, Brian Dexter

With much respect, it feels fitting to close the album with “Hot Rod Star”, a rockabilly song that I wrote and recorded several years ago and that was inspired by great songwriters and artists and songs such as those I have covered on this album.
I dedicate the song here as my personal tribute and appreciation to them, and to the legendary 1950's Country, Blues, Doo Wop and Rockabilly era, and the dawning of Rock and Roll.
I was fortunate to have been a part of those days in the making, and of the music that defined the times.
Yes, those really were the days.

I got a new paint job on my cool hot rod car woooh
I got a new paint job on my cool hot rod car
Candy Apple red, yeah, I'm a hot rod star

I got my blue suede shoes, I got a new suit too woooh
I got my blue suede shoes, I got a new suit too yeah guess what honey
I just got my name in the high school news

Gonna take you to the hop in my hot rod car
I'm gonna take you to the high school hop in my hot rod car
You're gonna go dancin' honey with your hot rod star

I got my blue suede shoes, I got a new suit too woooh honey
I got my blue suede shoes, I got a new suit too
I just got my name in the high school news

Got my little hot rod chick, cute as a movie star
Got my little hot rod chick she's as cute as a movie star
I'm gonna take her to the hop in my Candy Apple hot rod car

Gonna take you to the hop honey in my hot rod car woooh
I'm gonna take you to the high school hop in my hot rod car mm-mmm honey
You're gonna go dancin' tonight with your hot rod star
Yeah, you're gonna rock and roll all night with your hot rod star woooh

Neil cuts loose with a country rockin' roots blues song, neat sax shots and lead guitar, 'cool hotrod car,' that brings a burst of nostalgia, ooh the piano, remember my first prom like yesterday, sat on the bleachers most of the evening, watching the exuberant (fancy) dancers, that song was fun...
