"I've been to every bar in the neighborhood...", and so goes the pickup artist's lament.

A Backtalk Unlimited Production

If at first you don't succeed, try another bar.
I’ve been to every bar in the neighborhood
And to every happy hour that I possibly could.
I park myself in a conspcuous place
In the hope that someone special will invade my space.
When I see a lovely lady I try to catch her eye,
But nine times out of ten she just walks on by.

I try to keep my hopes up through every passing day,
But the clock keeps on a-tickin’ in the most annoyin’ way.
I whisper sweet nothings and pretend to care,
But usually it turns out that there’s nothin’ there.
Another pretty lady just came wanderin’ by,
(Y’all excuse me for a moment…)

(Instrumental choruses)

Well, it’s any old time, and I’m in any old place,
I’m sittin’ at a bar with a smile on my face.
To the gal on my right I said: “’Scuse me, miss,
But what’s a nice girl doin’ in a place like this?”
She sat up straight, and she then replied:
“Just the same as you, mister, so here’s mud in your eye”.

And then we get to talkin’ just like old friends,
And I walked her to the door as the evenin’ ends.
I asked her if she’d mind, I’d like to see her again.
You know, she’s kind of cute, so there’s no use to pretend.
The odds are she won’t have landed Mister Right,
But, hey…..who knows? x
