An autobiographical song that I accidentally wrote one day instead of going to work on time.

Copyright Katherine Christie Evans 2016.

This is a song about how difficult it is to be a creative in London these days, financially and emotionally.
hand to mouth living off the state in Tottenham
(The) dole is mean and it keeps your chances lean
oh I gotta work for free
Why did I pay for a degree?

And my head is full of to do lists
Don’t remember how to just exist

No foot is in the door-
elitist jobmarket
privilege; it's not a level playing field
Who gave you a platform?
I could try, but I’ll always be an outlier
Unless I can commodify me
apply for smug bursary
You pat your own back!

you could meet me at kings x rail, I will wander north away from crowds, you know I hate crowds
I follow train tracks
building sites, hard hats.
And I don’t think I can be that girl

But your face is a city at night, it comes alive after dark
Only for me,
Behind your front line, where you keep your promises
You can let them all down.
I’ll wear your crown
Be your prince under a frown, who rides through traffic
London’s static,
But I'm your steady girl! x
