Hi Vincenzo

Thanks you for the caring-my younger kids are back home for a couple of weeks, as Uni doesn't start again until mid March-My eldest daughter is hanging on in Christchurch as her husband is a builder and is flat out-It seems surreal, that so many icons have been destroyed let alone the sad loss of lives-very hard to take!

Thanks for the Christmas good wishes, Vince. Same to you and Elaine. Speaking of food, I had this really good pizza in Hawaii. Get this combination: gorgonzola, rosemary, sweet onion. And with a chardonnay to go with it. Believe me, those four tastes together were like a symphony of flavour.

Oh I am so sorry about the termites. There isn't anywhere else you could record? What do you record with? A computer, a stand alone unit? There are these little hand recorders some of them can do a good job too...if you can find a space that you can do it. That is horrible. What do you have to do to get rid of the problem?

Vincenzo I am so sorry about the earthquake and your family losing their homes. I posted some articles in recent topics that are in English.
I also came across an article that St. Mark's Place had the worst flooding since the 1800s...the water came up really high...such a shame...that is a beautiful city.
The pictures of your hometown....the buildings that were still standing....looked so beautiful...it is such a shame...it is also sad that a scientist was warning folks about the earthquake and the authorities shut him down...they said you cannot predict earth quakes...well he did predict this one....if I lived there I would be pretty mad at the Mayor. Polititians often do not listen to Scientists.... I hope your family will be OK.
I am wondering where Latina is which is south of Rome where I have relatives....I should try to get their emails...dunno if my dad knows.

Hi there Vincenzo, you're more than right.....I apologise for not getting back to you before this. I went a long period spending very little time at IAC in late 2008 due to some work, family and recording commitments and didn't want to just leave some "hi, how's it going" comment (though looking back I should have). hope you won't hold it against me...I get a lil' distracted sometimes and don't always do a great jon in the personal relations dept. Anyway, good news is my mam in law seems to be doing better, I've got a new platter called "Donatello Soul" (like "don't tell a soul" with an Italian accent) coming out on tunecore 7 March and work seems to be going okay. On the bad side...my old country seems to be falling apart at the seems. How's it down under? Horrendous stuff with the fires and flooding....hope it didn't hit too close to home. Any cruise/travelling activity planned for 2009? Look forward to hearing more...Cheers Vincenzo e grazie per la patienza, mertitavi di meglio, non succederà piu man.

Usually you can bring a guitar on the plane as a carry on...I did when I left Ecuador...the stuardess put it in a closet for me....if you call them you can ask about it. Did you ask the airlines?
Too bad you don't have time to practice...what have you been doing? I was told by a teacher even if you practice 10 minutes a day...and if you leave the guitar out somewhere where it is easy to grab for a few minutes here and there....that works for busy people...if you make it easy on yourself you can squeeze a few minutes here or there.

Hi there Vincenzo, welcome back compagno! Hope you had a good cruise man!
Here in Italy things grind on, a bit of worry about the financial situation but I think here things actually might be a bit more stable. Took my wife Teresa out for her birthday recently (Tuscan place, fiorentina city man!) and had a great Chianti there....lovely.
Been doing a lot of recording, more instrumental, soundtracky stuff and in process of putting together a lil' rock'n'roll band (1955-1964 style) with some guys...might be fun. Hope all's well down under my friend.

Great to hear from you...I have never taken a cruise. Keep plugging away at the guitar and it will come...it takes time...lots of practice...slow practice...I just keep repeating something...now I am working on Purple Haze...this one will take some time....I've always felt a bit of a klutz playing guitar...it's not easy....
Did you spend only one day at each place the boat went to?
I like traveling independently and really getting into the culture and getting to know the people but it can be extremely tiring and difficult at times, not relaxing like a cruise would be (but quite an adventure!)...a heck of a lot less expensive than a cruise though...in some countries where I don't speak the language this would be much harder...a cruise would be an easier way to go to say the Orient....

Beth Fridinger

7/14/2008 7:02:03 PM

Vincenzo I hope you bring your guitar....practice 10 mins a day....just play the chords you know for a few minutes at some point during the day....if you can find even just 10 mins a day it will help you a lot.

Beth Fridinger

7/10/2008 5:04:57 AM

sounds like an amazing trip. I'll miss ya though! I hope you get to play on that ship.

Beth Fridinger

7/8/2008 9:25:39 PM

70 days on a ship...where are you going??

Beth Fridinger

7/8/2008 1:24:32 PM

You might also pick a real simple song you LOVE and learn to play it...that makes it real easy to learn!!

Beth Fridinger

7/8/2008 1:22:59 PM

Very cool...well if you learn the Bm chord that will add the the key of D, (D, G, A, Bm) and for key of C, C, F, G, Am (the F takes a little time). Also the fifth degree of the scale sounds great as a seventh chord... I am reviewing chords at other places on the neck now....and trying to learn new rhythms...started playing Mona, a Bo Diddly tune...LOVE IT! My fingers are very SORE from playing, esp. mandolin (tight tension) and I have put some money in to my bank acct from busking in the street!
They say if you practice even just 10 mins a day....it would help you a lot...if you leave the guitar out where you can grab it quickly for a few mins here and there....might help. It does get easier...it is amazing...it's all muscle memory. I remember chords I learned 20 years ago before I quit.
I hope you get to practice on the ship....bring extra strings, wire cutter, everything you might need just in case. How long will you be on the ship?

Haven't learned much yet, just finding my way as I have only had one day a week to practice. Shortly I will be on a ship for 70 days. That should give me plenty of time to practice.

I have learned to: Tune the guitar on itself
the chords of A, Am, E, Em, G, C, D

I plan to teach myself all the chords, so that I can at least accompany myself. Later I will try to learn how to play melody.

I find that strangely it gets easier to play the chords every time I get back to it.

I will be away for a while and I will have limited access to the internet, so I won't be around often, but I will try to log in one in a while.

Beth Fridinger

7/7/2008 8:42:46 AM

Beth Fridinger

6/30/2008 6:46:17 AM

Hi, the mail is down on IAC. Hopefully the action on the guitar is not high. It will take time for your fingers to make a clean sound. Play SLOW to learn it right. Wiggle fingers to get it right...practice changing chords very slowly; try playing each string separately as you hold the chord; that's a good test
I've seen some nice acoustic guitars on craigslist for sale cheap so eventually you might get a nice one there....my friend got a nice Alvarez for $50 and just had to replace a tuning head which he did himself. Yamaha makes excellent instruments at a reasonable price; so does Ibanez. But your Suzuki may be just fine if the octaves are OK. I love the guitar; love the mandolin too, and keyboard; and wish I played better....been playing the street a lot and I really like it...except for the weather. I wish I did this all my life. I've been doing well on the street.

I'm here... See? Just not as verbal as usual. Maybe cuz it's the summer time and I'm outside more these days?

Beth Fridinger

6/29/2008 7:04:46 AM

How's the guitar going? Did you try playing note on 12th fret and see if it is exactly one octave higher than the string? Guitars are delicate...if it was out in the sun it could have gotten warped...possibly an adjustment to truss rod might fix it.

Hello Vincenzo ! Million thanks for visit, comment & support...apprezzo molto !
Ciao,

Beth Fridinger

6/21/2008 12:29:48 AM

Well, as far as the guitar goes, I suggest starting with maybe key of G, learn G, C, and D, then add D7 and E minor, and then you can add A minor. Start with one chord, then another, work and changing, add another, etc. Then pick a simple song and play it slowly. A good song in the key of G might be Knockin on Heaven's Door, although on that one you would learn the A minor and maybe A minor seventh. These chords are not that hard. If you start with the key of C, the F chord is hard. Practice slowly as it is muscle memory and you don't want to learn mistakes in that muscle memory...start slow...train your muscles correctly.
Now if the action is high on your guitar it is going to be hard to play and sometimes adjustments can help that. An acoustic guitar is harder to play than an electric, but the action is important because if it's bad it can be very hard to learn to play. Persistence pays off with the guitar, and you can start by just learning simple rhythm and just play and sing when you feel more comfortable. Try to make it fun! If you practice sitting down, when you stand it will be hard to play so you have to also practice standing up because it is different!
There are a lot of guitar lessons online too and you might check some of those...try to find the way that easiest for you to learn. The suggestion that I made above is from my own experience and what I wished teachers told me, the
I, IV, and V, then the V7 and the VI minor, then you can add the II minor and the III minor. If you are trying to read music notes to the guitar neck that is a very slow hard way to do it (it's much easier to read notes playing piano!!!)....it really isn't necessary...at least right away just learn chords...when you master the open chords, then start with the root 6 and root 5 bar chords and when you learn those, you will learn the names of the notes on the 5th and 6th strings and 1st strings as well as those coincide with the chord names.
I find I r

Hi there man, congrats on your kayak nominations....I have a feeling you might just get one. My wife really digs your stuff. Thanx for checking out the rest of the CD.
Actually done at home but woth a good mastering program called AAMS. That comment made my week.
Probably because 98% of my influences are from that time, ha ha.
Yep...traded a strat for it. I love Hammonds....my fave sound on Earth.
Release day is May 6. I'm trying to some promotion.
Yeah, I imagine...damn I wanted to write some notes but forgot to and shipped it...doh(!) well.
Hey my friend....if you get a chance (some of the landscapes will remind you of Australia surely!)

Hi there again Vincenzo...just listened to your record in its entirety at the station and needless to say I'm quite impressed. I really like how it hangs together as unified piece of work and of course your vocals and keyboard work are top rate. I like the mixture of your Med roots with that English pastoral feel you get. Very particular and so great to know MELODIES still exist! Great opening bit on "So Much To Learn" (was waiting for Ian Anderson to pop in there with his flute!) but the show stoppers are the final two....wow. Every time I'm f-ed off with Milan (every day in other words) I'll listen to "Lucky Country". "Look Around" is the song that Ray Davies has been trying to write for the past 30 years...absolutely brilliant (and yer Aussie brogue is too much). Personally I'd hear strings, trumpets and total production overkill (lol) 'cause it's so good. That chord change on "have you asked her how she feels..." does me in. Re: your comments: glad you like "Capitaz"...it's about the only one that doesn't have Hammond (my two fingered variety of course!) but it'd be so great to hear your on that. Great how we wound up the records at the same time. Cheers!

Hi there Vincenzo, sorry it took a bit to get back to you. I'll tell ya...for an American Sherwood Forest can't be beat. Good stuff. You mean say you're a bootleger man? I should have known with an old bluesman like you :-) Great news about you're EP and talk about timing...I've finished my new instrumental record "Voxpopped" as well. Know what you mean about wanting to redo stuff (do I ever!)...hard to ever feel totally satisfied. What the hell...let's put 'em out! Sometimes the quirks are the best parts. When you hear some of the stuff that came out in the '70s (John Bonham's sqeaky kick drum pedal anyone?) it's amazing but it gave the stuff character. I'll check out the station with yer toon...if you get a chance check out the lead track from here. Great hearing from ya and thanks for the good weather! Ooroo for now man! Carl

I don't often get to Sydney but next time I do, I'll make sure I send you a message and let you know. Perhaps we can catch up and I can sample your REAL Spaghetti Bolognese :-)

Likewise, if you get the chance to travel to Victoria, send me a message and let me know.

Hi Vincenzo,

I was just listening to your songs and am listening right now to Lucky Country. Are you still living in Australia? If so, where abouts? Maybe we are close by!

I must say too that although I do not speak Italian, I adore listening to it in music and I love your song 'Quando dico ti amo'. That is just beautiful!

Warmest regards,

Hugh Hamilton

Greetings, V! Sorry for my delay in replying to your nice comment - I forget about the comments on my page and usually just quickly check the shoutbox...have also had a house full of germs for the last 10 days or so...yecch...ANYWAY, I hope the EP's shaping up nicely, and please let me know if you have any particular couple or few songs you'd enjoy some feedback on.

Cheers,
Hugh

I like your song "If I could Play The Guitar" Very sweet and wistful. the guitar has a beautiful resonant tone to it and I thought you did a very good job of playing - not bad for a keyboard player! thank you for dropping by to visit!

G'day Vincenzo,
i like the new song you put up it doesn't really remind me of anything specific either, great work.
Did you end up looking into those drum loops? Did you find anything useful?
You don't know of any unemployed or disgruntled bass players after your trip up north do you? I'm full of questions today aren't I? Is it annoying?
Alright I'll stop it then, keep up the great music.
Cheers Mark

Hi, do you think Tunecore is better than ITunes for getting exposure to maybe sell some music? Just wondering what your experience is...

Carl Schonbeck

2/10/2008 9:00:32 AM

Grazie mille for the info Vincenzo...I signed up at Tunecore and it looks really good. I'm excited about finally having my stuff out there on the market. Actually, my big hangup now is getting some record covers together (after all these years I have three CDs more or less ready to go out but never got covers made for them). Gonna try to do something in Photoshop...time to learn something about digital images I imagine!
Here in Italy it's the same old same old...the Prodi government fell as expected and they've called new elections for April which Berlusconi will win; it's just that people are totally fed up with politics by now, the economy is stagnant, mountains of trash in Naples and few possibilities for young people anywhere...it's pretty depressing but you know how Italy is...people soldier on and hope for something better. Speaking of...I'll check out your recipe! I weighed about 75 kilos when I got to Milan in '90 and now I'm up to almost 90....almost a kilo a year, not too shabby! Meno male che non bevo troppo birra! Grazie di nuovo per l'info e a presto amico mio.

Hi Vincenzo! Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you....been busy finishing recording a new tune :-) Has news of all the craziness here in Italy made it down under? Non ci sono parole man! Sorry to hear you've been getting rain, here it's been pretty nice, hoping for an early spring. Actually, I've never distributed to iTune...actually wanted to ask you about Tunecore. It's about time I get the hang of online distribution (!). No, I didn't see your algio-pepperincino blog, curious to read it. Ciao man e a presto!

Hi there Vince,
Looks like you've been playing in my backyard lately. Thanks for bringing the rain up with you, we sure as hell need it up here.

About those drum loops click on the link below and it should take you to the site, I've found the quality is pretty good from about VI onwards.

Carl Schonbeck

1/25/2008 6:11:25 AM

Glad to hear you're getting some nice summer weather Vincenzo...here in Italy it's the great winter of discontent.....government collapsed (giusto per cambiare) again yesterday and everyone's pretty much had it (giusto per cambiare). Ah well....something else write a song about, right? Know what you mean about trying to finish records...trying to put the finishing touches on my own thing as well. Maybe we can synchronize the releases like the Fabs and the Stones used to do? Cheers!

How's it going there man? Hope 2008 is treating you right so far! Here in Italy (at least in the north) it's cold and foggy whilst elsewhere another government gets ready to fall and Naples is being buried in trash...never any shortage of song material here! Saluti e buona musica amico mio, ciao!

Vincenzo... I'm very sorry to hear of your wife's illness... may she have a speedy and full recovery... Glad to hear the rest of the holiday was good ..

Ahh "Everybody's Got A Song" has been up for awhile .. I just did a little page rearranging .. It has been my most popular song here to date...
I did put up a new one recently though ... It's called "Whiskey Symphony" I play guitar, bass and keyboards in this one... stretching my horizons .. :)
If you visit Hugh Hamiltons page you'll find a song called "Flicker" that I wrote the lyrics on ... Hugh turned it into a very good song ... He is a very good Artist !

I really like Quando dico ti amo. Beautiful. I have to laugh how you put things have changed under your picture. Yes, it's funny how the years go by and they go by too fast. I speak some Spanish but my dad's family is Italian and it's nice to be able to understand the words somewhat...my grandparents spoke fluent Italian...It is such a beautiful language and I wish I could speak it, and I wish I could visit it again! Uela Vincenzo (!) yeah it's a good little restaurant (we went with the white house wine). I'll have to chase down a copy of that book you mentioned, sounds interesting. Funny, a guy I play with here recently sent me an mp3 of that version of Space Oddity in Italian. That's you on keys there then? Too much. Have to check it out again. Ever get back to Italia much?

Hi Vincenzo...took your advice and went out last night with the wife for a buon risotto w/ shrimp (!) - Via Plinio, Bar Basso area where I live. Not surprised you spent some time in Milan...always been curious about what the scene was like back then (pretty dire these days I'm afraid). Did you know Dimitrios Stratos (spelling?) from L'Aria by any chance? I took guit lessons with another guy named Gigi Cifarelli who was around back then too, dunno if you knew him. Really dig the Dusselldorf shot btw. Hope life is good down under and thanks for the nice comments.

Ciao Vincenzo,
Thank you for your nice comment. I read your intervention about GarageBand and I was precisely in the same situation with the track HELL IS EMPTY.... I think as you to this topic, it is effectively very frustrating, but I also think that it is unavoidable in this kind of system to meet reviewers with bad intentional that tries merely to break the dynamics of the other to make climb their own audience but it must not reach us because we have each a big faith in our music.
Your music is very nice, Keep on rockin.
