Musically dead
Personal / emotional circumstances have killed all creative energy over the past year. I am a part of numerous projects about which I remain very excited, but my enthusiasm and ability to navigate any and all musical avenues have seemingly been killed in their sleep.

We all go through these spells. Sometimes it is good to dive into something completely different; something non-music related. Clear your head and come back fresh.

I see your watching music videos on a daily basis at " Desperado Tornado Music ". wich is a good thing. Maybe you should share more of the music you like until you get back on track.

In my opinion, the best way to rediscover a passion is to take a break from it for a while. Maybe you’re biting off more than you can chew with your numerous projects. Cleanse your musical palate by focusing on other endeavors. After a short fast, food tastes better than it did before.

Anything that can kill your dreams sounds like a very difficult challenge that might be difficult to overcome but your love of music will give you strength and will still be there when you return to it after you conquer your demons. Don’t despair and don’t give up. Music needs you as much as you need it.

Another idea for you if you don't want to step away from the music just yet. If nothing new and original is coming up, learn a bunch of cover songs. Pick a song you like and play it in different genres. Try different tempos and key centers. Or, spend a day learning a bunch of songs by one band. Pretend you just got a call to fill in with a tribute band and you need to learn a 20-song set list in 72 hours. Don't let the music beat you. Use the music to get out of your music rut.

The thing about creativity is that it just happens. I have learned not to try to force it or make it happen. One must learn to be patient when it is not happening. Take the lull time to concentrate on other things that may have been neglected while you were being creative. Or, you can collaborate with someone else. Their creativity may spark your own. But don't compare what you are going through to a death of some sorts. The truth is that the music never dies, we do!

So true, Stoneman. You can't force creativity. You just gotta let it happen.

I think the pandemic and all the stress of the last few years has drained so many people - I am only now getting my music mojo back by recording old songs that I'd never recorded previously - it's helping to reopen that creative side and I've managed to write some new verses and lyrics after a seriously long gap! Good luck - I'm sure you'll get back on track.....
