non GOD pledge - for your consideration
I pledge Allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all.

I noticed by romoving 'under god' from the pledge, the result seems to allow more emphasis on 'indivisible'.

..as a nation chalk full of diversity, doesn't it also seem like that is our problem?
by reciting 'under god' in the pledge, we automatically alienate non god fearing/believing folk, who are just as much a part of this nation.
the implication under god makes is that this is a nation of religion, as apposed to being a nation of people.

until we acknowledge all religious and non religious as equalls, we will not be indivisible.

as it is written now, the pledge is a standing contradiction

Religion has no place in politics, or government. That is why things are so screwed up today...the mixture of religion with politics.

the original pledge didn't contain the words "Under God".

That was added in 1954...

In fact it was written in 1892 by a Socialist, Baptist.

It was written by Francis Bellamy , the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850-1898).

I was hoping someone would bring that up.
yes, NNB, and it needs to be changed again.
the pledge of allegience has been rewritten several times over the years.

as it is recited today in schools demonstrates the mentality of the politically (in)corrrect factions dictating to our kids that without god and religion, they are less.

i grew up in a cult-ridden neochristian state,.. Utah. I know as well as anyone the religious supremacy in the classroom and on the playground. If you were a kid without religion, whether catholic, babtist, presby,.. and expecially mormon, you were an outcast and doomed to hang with the only group accepting,.. the parking lot crowd.

the pledge creates a foundation and makes it easier for oppressive mean kids to bring the non-religious heathens down and keep them down.

I wouldn't care at all if this stupid pledge wasn't recited everyday in public schools, but it is, and it bugs the fuck out of me.

Do with this what you will. Makes no difference to me. I present the truth. If you have a problem with that, take it up with God, not me. My faith will not be shaken by men who store up the wrath of God come judgement day.

Then everyone who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father in Heaven.
But whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father in Heaven.
Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
I came to divide a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a bride against her mother-in-law.
"Ones hostile to the man shall be those of his own house." Mic. 7:6
The one loving father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And the one loving son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
And who does not take up his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
The one finding his life shall lose it. And the one losing his life on account of Me shall find it.
The one receiving you receives Me, and the one receiving Me receives Him who sent Me.
The one receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one receiving a just one in the name of a just one will receive a just one's reward.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to drink to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, In no way will he lose his reward.

Matthew 10:32-42

aus,..

funny thing is, I am very good at reading between the lines.
As subjective to interpretation as scriptures are, for some reason, I can see the relativity. The problem is that zealots and self absorbed business men and beaurocrats like to cry from atop the mountain with their own interpretation of what it all means.

bottom line, freedom of religion is freedom of religion. For anyone To put themselves before anyone else because of religous affiliations, IS WRONG.

to create an atmosphere in public schools where kids from all religions and non-religions, have to play and work together, alienation happens when a kid gets reprimanded in front of everyone in the class for refusing to say the pledge.

rightious bible thumping know it alls need to take turns and share or they need muzzles fitted just long enough for opposing POVs to get their conch time.

either ban and/or remove the pledge from daily use in public schools or take the GOD out of it.

If the religious aspect is divisive I have no problem with dumping it, but it is a slippery slope. If one's religion requires certain public manefestations in order to privately practice it (yarmuckles, praying towards Mecca, etc) do you deny those in order to create a "god free" zone? Is that oppression?

You may have read me mourning the lack of "ritual" in modern US society. Clearly we can't agree on the "magic" but I think we have to have some sort of binding rituals, otherwise we cease to have a society. We need some sort of "I got your back" or "you or not alone" type mythology. We have already allowed ourselves to go from pack to herd, now we want to be so "diverse" that we become McNuggets.

On "magic" - I am all for anything that helps someone be a better person, let me establish that now. Now a cautionary tale: I used to work with a universal love, angelic beings, healing crystals hippie (I have NO PROBLEM with that). This person became angry when the cubical dweller next door began to play a religious talk / music station on the radio. It wasn't loud, but Rainbows and Unicorns complained that it was meant to sublimanally "convert" them. A formal complaint was lodged. As a result, all religious items were banned.

An elderly Catholic became angry that a rosary could not be displayed and had Rainbow's cubical raided. "The Big Book of Charms" was conficated and read, revealing that the crytals and herbs in the cubical were, indeed, religious items that had to be removed. NOW, it was OPPRESSION. Oppression by stupid people that were too blind to see the The One True Religion of Mother Earth. Oppression by ignorant bigots.

BTW, I was always "parking lot". It was very inclusive, it was a big parking lot. The only problems we really ever had was when some Pretty Boy would skulk over, asking to buy some "pot joints" for a party we were NOT to attend. Pretty Boy would generally swear all concerned to secrecy. We would always give these dorks a few doobs, with instructions to light ONE END ONLY, puff puff pass to the left, repeat until it's all gone. It was always free, on the condition he would go the fuck away and promise not to tell anyone WE talked to HIM.

well put, jingo.
I agree about rituals and that social evolution has increasing bias toward the need for diversification to the point where it sometimes overwhelms the greater good of the class (so to speak).
I also agree that it is stupid people got us here.

the thing is, folks like me (open minded and tollerant,.. believe it or not) have put up with stupid people acting the squeaky wheel and getting the oil.

fuck that! time for the open minded free thinkers who have voluntarily taken the back seat in religious vs. political debates in the past to quit graciously accepting the shit end of the stick.

right now, bullies and hazing is commonplace, not much different from the past, but NOW we have youtube and blogosphere,... in other words, a podium.

use it

Bruce,

I am simply doing what I have been called to do by God Himself. Following Christ is all about following Christ, NOT following man made doctrines and religion.
Jesus despises man made religions and the mess they have made of society. I do not belong to any religious denomination. God does not dwell in buildings built by man but He DOES dwell in the living temples He has created, that is, the hearts of His true disciples.

For you are not the ones speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
But brother will betray brother to death, and the father his child. And children will rise up against parents and will put them to death.
And you will be hated by all on account of My name, but the one enduring to the end shall be kept safe.
But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For truly I say to you, In no way will you have finished the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his lord.
It is enough for the disciple to become as his teacher, and the slave as his lord. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household?
Therefore, you should not fear them, for nothing is covered which will not be uncovered; and hidden, which will not be made known.

What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

And you should not fear the ones killing the body, but not being able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him being able to destroy both soul and body in Hell.

Matthew 10:20-28
