Star Belgrade have had a fantastic opening to their career which began with a bedroom demo recorded on a 4 track tape recorder. Within days of sending out the tapes, ""Red Arc"" was broadcast by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1.

""It just goes to show you that you don't necessarily have to go into a big, expensive 24 track studio to make something that will grab people's attention... that's a real grower that track""
(Steve Lamacq)

From there, the radio interest grew. For Aligre FM in Paris they recorded a session which recieved heavy airplay & featured in the stations Top 30 playlist amongst the likes of Interpol, Frank Black, Coldplay & David Bowie. ""Red Arc"" continues to be broadcast on independant stations & podcasts throughout Europe & the UK.

The band have maximized the use of the Internet to circulate their music. Since the launch of their web page on CPU.ie in February '06, their songs have been dowloaded by an incredible 16,000 listeners, making them the website's most downloaded unsigned Irish band of all time.

Star Belgrade began gigging in March '06 & have notched up four well attended & well recieved gigs, including two headline slots in Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre. Freelance journalist Paul Galbally had this to say about their live set :

""Star Belgrade have purpose, that's apparent from the minute they take the stage. Their sound is wide and large, with a technological feel, that isn't clinical. Mike's stage presence is big, and they have a brooding and expectant air that makes listening to them an exciting and visceral experience. The material is excellent, and they give each number plenty of time to develop and allow the soundscapes to grow in unison as a musical unit. Their playing is technically excellent and inventive. This is all but their 3rd gig. Now that's impressive""

The band are set to enter the studio for the first time to record their debut EP. A nationwide release and tour will begin later this summer.

GIG REVIEW

"Star Belgrade arrive on the stage amidst a flurry of guitars and keyboards that seem to have sprung from nowhere. The look on their faces tells you they mean business. In terms of style think Bono crossed with Massive Attack, a lot of fuzz, a lot of noise, and melodious vocals poured over the top. The noise is huge, and consistent, a lot of work went into building the sound of this band, and its apparent when they play...... Star Belgrade, well, they may just end up as the new Coldplay."

GIG PREVIEW

"A bedsit band with a difference, Star Belgrade deal in austere electro-beats and aloof
melodies.Suggesting nothing so much as Kraftwerk's depressed student phase, the Dublin quintet write sleek synth anthems shot through with the occasional glimmer of emotion.

Cultivating a following over the internet has allowed Star Belgrade to follow their own route, distinct from the mainstream Irish music scene. Before even releasing a record, the group acquired a cheerleader in the form of BBC DJ, Steve Lamacq, who playlisted their demo tape.
Subsequently, they recorded a session with the influential French station, Aligre FM, enjoying heavy rotation alongside such A-listers as David Bowie and Interpol. At this rate they could be bagging Grammys before having even played Whelans.

Downloaders have proved no less eager to embrace Star Belgrade's crisp dance moves. Since their debut on Irish music site, CPU.ie, the track, Red Arc, has been downloaded 12,300 times. In a pre-internet era, that sort of traffic might have been enough to achieve a No.1.

Having belatedly quit the bedroom - most of their music was recorded at home on lap-tops - the band lately cut their teeth as a live force. Often electro acts can flounder on stage. Making their concert debut only last May, Star Belgrade have, however, adapted their sleek sound to the demands of in-the-flesh performance. Against a background of glum rhythms and shrapnel guitars, frontman Mike Burrows sings as though he's the loneliest guy on the planet. If your robot girlfriend has recently dumped you, his tattered croon might just be the solace you require. Support comes from the oft overlooked Ultra Montanes."

Review by Paul Galbally taken from www.thesaturday sessions.com

The Final act were Star Belgrade. This band have had a fantastic opening to their career, playing just 2 impressive and well attended gigs in important venues, and are set to headline the Temple Bar Music Centre's Emergenza festival in May.

This is all but the third time they take the stage as a band, now thats impressive. They have maximized the use of the Internet and its associated technologies to get their excellent music circulated to those in the know, and those in the know have decided that this band are on to something and are adjusting their plans accordingly.

Star Belgrade have purpose, thats apparent from the minute they take the stage. Their sound is wide and large, with a technological feel, that isnt clinical. Mikes stage presence is also big, and they have a brooding and expectant air that makes listening to them an exciting and visceral experience. The material is excellent, and they give each number plenty of time to develop and allow the soundscapes to grow in unison as a musical unit. Their playing, also, is technically excellent and inventive.

They provided the perfect ending to a great night with their quality set, that left the punters happy and content with their Saturday night out. You can find out more about this fast-moving band at the music website < www.myspace.com/starbelgrade >.
