From headlining at the Blue Note with his jazz piano trio to his work for CBS television, David Morgan is consistently producing and performing music that is diverse, dynamic and that moves the soul. Originally from San Francisco, Morgan grew up listening to everything from the Beatles to John Coltrane to Chopin. From an early age, he knew that music would be a huge part of his life. In high school, when Morgan was bitten by the jazz bug, he decided to devote his college career to studying jazz. He started off at California State Northridge and two years later, moved to the University of New Orleans to pursue jazz studies where jazz was born.

At UNO, Morgan studied jazz piano and composition with legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste. It was there that he first played with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, James Rivers, Wes Anderson and Nycholas Payton. Before heading for New York, producer/composer Battiste released his first jazz CD, “Comment” on AFO Records. Morgan has since released two additional critically acclaimed jazz CD’s, “Hands of Time” (Turnipseed Music) and “The David Morgan Trio-Live at the Blue Note” (Half Note Records) featuring drummer Jason Marsalis, bassist David Grossman and guitarist Peter Bernstein. He has also performed with legends such as Benny Powell and Clark Terry and younger greats like Jeremy Davenport, Herb Harris, Roland Guerin, Miri Ben-Ari and Brice Winston.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Morgan’s career is his work with singer/songwriter Neshama Carlebach. Carlebach is one of the most soulful and beloved singer/songwriters in the jewish world today. After playing Hammond organ on a duet record with her father, the late Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, she asked him to become her musical director, producer and co-writer. Their fifth CD, “Journey” was released in October, 2004 to fantastic reviews. They travel around the world playing concerts and giving workshops.

0As a composer, Morgan has been busy writing for television and film. He has written and produced jazz music for CBS’s hit Judging Amy, and rock, pop, funk and orchestral score and themes for CBS Sports. He wrote the musically diverse score for the comedy feature film,“Hacks,” written and directed by Saturday Night Live writer, Glenn Rockowitz. Morgan also performs and records with singer/songwriter Peter Himmelman and has played piano on Emeril’s cooking show and CBS sitcom. Recently, he played piano, keyboards and arranged the music for singer Kelly Mittleman’s R&B album produced by legend, Nile Rogers. A new musical partner, singer Diana Canova and Morgan are getting ready to record their first duet album, produced by engineering pioneer Elliot Scheiner. His new pop/rock album Ordinary Glory was just released in November, 2005.
