Gail Vareilles and Tommy Faragher
win Songwriting award
SGA member and frequent SGA workshop attendee Gail Vareilles and guest SGA Workshop Instructor Tommy Faragher, also an SGA member, recently received the honor of being named Finalists by the Song of the Year songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners. Both have won numerous other honors and awards.
Song of the Year was excited to recognize Gail Vareilles and Tommy Faragher for their exceptional songwriting ability for the song “Blast”. Vareilles and Faragher competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song, Vareilles commented that “even though “Blast” was inspired by the devastating death of my fiancé, the joy of having him live on forever in my music comforts me”.
Currently, Vareilles is concentrating on her songwriting career while hoping to get a publishing deal . “I am lucky to be so inspired to write soulful music and my joy is in inspiring others on their journeys”.
Faragher continues to produce and write, and, time permitting, is working with various workshop attendees that met him through the Songwriters Guild. Read more about Tommy and his numerous accomplishments in this month’s Events section, as Tommy is now preparing to teach his next workshop for the Songwriters Guild, “From Page to Stage”.
East Coast Project Manager Mark Saxon and the Songwriters Guild of America would like to congratulate Vareilles and Faragher on this impressive accomplishment.
