King Louis and the Free Radicals blends styles borrowed from folk, acoustic, pop, and alternative rock genres into an ecclectic mix of independant vocal driven songs. All of the band's songs (which range from light and upbeat to surprisingly dark and moody) have been written and are performed entirely by the band's frontman and only member Edward Smith.

Edward, a self taught guitaris/vocalist who never performs under the same name twice, was originally inspired to start playing by early 90's grunge bands and attributes much of his musical influence to indie rock bands such as Interpol, The Black Heart Procession, Elliot Smith, The Eels, and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, as well as more mainstream bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus, all of whom he is convinced his music sounds nothing like.
