Welcome to the official website for Marilyn Fletcher.

Singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist, Marilyn Fletcher, plays a unique blend of folk, rock, rhythm and blues -- combining shades of the 60's with a melodic progressive edge. Her lyrics take an honest look at the world -- and love -- with the hope that wisdom and growth can be weeded from life’s imperfections.

Marilyn was immersed into the world of music at an early age. She has studied piano, violin and is a self-taught guitarist. She began composing her own music at the age of twelve and was a strong voice in school choral groups throughout her youth. At sixteen, as a member of her high school chamber chorus, Marilyn embarked on a three-week tour of Poland -- an experience that confirmed her belief in the power of music to reach beyond language and culture...and touch the soul.

During her undergraduate years at Wellesley College and as a graduate student at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Marilyn honed her live performance skills at student-run coffee houses where her music was enthusiastically received.

While maintaining a full-time career at some of the country's top broadcast news organizations, Marilyn made her professional debut as a solo-a rtist at The Speakeasy in New York City's Greenwich Village. She moved immediately to prime weekend spots, opening for people such as Shawn Colvin and former member of ""The Band,"" Jesse Winchester. She also shared the stage with B.B. King at another landmark Manhattan music club, The Lone Star.

Soon after, Marilyn formed a band in order to broaden the concepts of her music. Supported by bass, drums, lead guitar and a back-up vocalist, Marilyn and band appeared at many well known New York City clubs in addition to The Speakeasy and The Lone Star, such as The Bitter End, Under Acme, and Kilimanjaro.

Marilyn, a native of Washington, D.C., is currently a freelance television producer in Los Angeles, CA where she has performed at Genghis Cohen and The Joint.

I like both songs, but love the Gift. Happy belated! Why don't you put Boxcar on the website? I love that song and sometimes even try to remember the words. I'm sure "Come and put the lights up Nikki" would be a smash!
